Status & Open Work

This page mirrors the repo’s single status surface, docs/conan/TODO.md. Every genuinely open item gets one row here; the full evidence and paths-tried tables live in the raw notes.

Conan is the outlier of the five games: its containers and pixel formats are solved, but far less of its actual game logic has been recovered than for War in Middle Earth, Spirit or Vengeance — because both Amiga executables carry only 632 bytes of static code, with everything else self-decompressing at runtime. See Cracking a Hostile Executable for how the formats were worked out anyway.

ID Status Question (one line)
conan-frml-combat-animation-ranges open Confirm — against code rather than the current render-derived hypothesis — the walk/attack/death frame-range splits for ANIS32.RES 55–89 and ANIM32.RES’s combat sprites. No code-level segmentation table was found anywhere in START.EXE, and the paths-tried table in the raw notes records the searches that came up empty.

This is why the Animation Gallery labels those segments as confidence: 'hypothesis' rather than presenting them as confirmed. The 23 resources that are code-confirmed as single-clip scene decoration — torches, fire, drips — are marked separately.

Item Result
SCEN scene/room format Fully traced: 6,542 object entries, zero residue. Nothing yet turns that data into a rendered scene the way the other games’ scene galleries do — the trace is complete, the renderer isn’t built.
.L32 / .L16 loader assets Ordinary resource forks despite the extension, cross-checked pixel-for-pixel against the DOS port: 58 of 60 comparable images identical.
FRML All 101 resources decode; the open item above is about segmenting them, not decoding them.
DOS port executable header The scrambled header turned out to be evidence of a copy-protection crack, not an unsupported compressor — a conclusion that only became available by comparing the two ports.
