Status & Open Work
Status & Open Work
Section titled “Status & Open Work”This page mirrors the repo’s single status surface,
docs/vengeance/TODO.md. Every genuinely open item gets one row here; the
full evidence and paths-tried tables live in the raw notes.
Vengeance is the most thoroughly reverse-engineered game of the five — every major data format is decoded and cross-verified against the game’s own disassembled loading and rendering code, including the DOS VGA port. One item remains, and it is a tooling fix rather than an unsolved format.
Open items
Section titled “Open items”| ID | Status | Question (one line) |
|---|---|---|
veng-entity-table-offset |
open | The game-data export tool needs repointing at the corrected roster base (file offset 0x08, name at +0); it is currently index-shifted by one with a rotated raw record. Blocked on deriving the DOS VGA port’s own episode layout, which shares the constants but not the layout. |
Closed (accepted as final)
Section titled “Closed (accepted as final)”Scene-to-location mapping, compositor wiring, the global descriptor’s low
bits, FRML overflow handling, the IMAG decode failures, the terrain
factor and type tables, the DOS VGA episode-table offset mapping, and DOS
VGA’s entityClasses, remapTables and terrain executable data are all
resolved. They are not re-listed here — the findings live in
docs/vengeance/amiga/engine.md, gameplay-data.md and plan.md, and the
row history is in git.
Two results worth carrying forward:
| Item | Result |
|---|---|
SCEN scene rendering |
266/266 resources fully traced, zero deviation — which is what makes the Scene Viewer Gallery real game output rather than an approximation. |
| Cross-platform verification | The DOS VGA port (467 IMAG, 51 FRML, the same world map) verified end to end against the Amiga original. Two independent builds agreeing is the strongest oracle this project has. |
